Demon Slayer Mist Hashira: Muichiro Tokito

by Theo Ponthieux

When discussing Demon Slayer, one frequently discusses either the demons or the demon slayers themselves. Despite the series providing us with a wide range of other fascinating characters, the Hashiras usually steal the show. The nine Hashira do, in fact, stand out from the rest of the Demon Slayer Corps when it comes to fighting the most dangerous demons. They possess amazing abilities, from the flame-wielding Kyojuro Rengoku to the cool-headed Giyu Tomioka. The Demon Slayer Corps' finest Hashira are each equipped with a special Breathing style and have been introduced to previous arcs. Demon Slayer has so far covered many story arcs, the most recent of which was the Entertainment District Arc. Muichiro Tokito, the Mist Hashira, is one of the two Hashira who seem to be in focus alongside Tanjiro and his buddies in the recently released anime teaser. Read on and learn everything you need to know about Muichiro Tokito.

Who is Muichiro Tokito?

Who is Muichiro Tokito?

Muichiro Tokito is an important supporting character in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. He is a member of the Demon Slayer Corps and the reigning Mist Hashira. Given his youth and skills, Muichiro is, without a doubt, the most amazingly talented Hashira in Demon Slayer. He completed the difficult Hashira training in just two months, a feat that Himejima had only ever accomplished.

Furthermore, Muichiro is one of the hashira who has succeeded in mastering his special form of breathing, mist breathing. He practiced and used a variety of techniques throughout time to develop the Mist breathing technique. He is so skilled that he even used additional, powerful techniques in his Mist Breathing to contest with the 12 Kizuki. His fighting technique is excellent, and Kokushibo's higher-rank one admitted as much when he remarked that Mist Hahsira's swordsmanship was out of this world.

History of Muichiro Tokito

History of Muichiro Tokito

When Muichiiro and his twin brother were only ten years old, their mother was diagnosed with a terrible disease. She ultimately developed bronchitis and eventually passed away. Before that, their father had been worried about his wife's health and had ventured into the village in spite of the winter in search of medicine and other medical assistance. However, he fell down a cliff and died while traveling to the settlement. Only the two of them made it through. In contrast to his brother, who occasionally acted rudely and always stood his ground, Muichiro acquired a compassionate character from his father. Due to their conflicting personalities, Muichiro finds it challenging to live with his brother.

Amane, the wife of Kagai Ubuyashiki, discovered them in the spring and urged them to join the Demon Slayers. Yuuichiro's strong rejection of the offer and subsequent hostile response angered Muichiro. In a fit of wrath, Yuichiro declared that his parents' demise resulted from their excessive labor and selfless attitude, saying that they ought to have taken all decisions with a cool mind. Muichiro was unable to persuade his brother to join the group. In fact, Amane Ubuyashiki repeatedly tried to enlist them in the Demon Slayer Corps because they were descendants of the original Demon Slayers but were met with resistance.

Then one day, at the beginning of summer, a demon attacked them. In an effort to defend his sibling, Yuuichiro broke his left arm. In a rush of wrath and desperation, Muichiro destroyed the Demon with every weapon at his disposal to death in the street with anything he could find, including a variety of implements and logs. As he arrived at his house, he saw his injured brother pleading with God for his life. Yuichiro complimented his brother on his good actions and claimed that he was only getting in the way of his brother's intentions. Muichiro took Yuichiro's hand despite the long death and eventual cessation of breathing. He begins to lose his memories after seeing his brother's slow demise. Then, Amane and her daughters found them, and they took Muichiro to their house to treat him.

Muichiro Tokito's Appearance

Muichiro Tokito's Appearance

Muichiro is a young kid of small stature with a lean muscular physique and long, straight hair of a black color that fades to turquoise as it reaches his waist. He sports untidy bangs over his forehead and loose hair with two clumps sticking out slightly from either side of his head, a pair of slightly shorter hair left down to frame his face. His eyes have a huge mint-green color, looking empty. Most of the time, he doesn't convey any emotion and has permanently vacant eyes.

His Demon Slayer costume has wide loose sleeves, unlike the cuffed gakuran look and doesn't wrap his calves, giving off a kimono aesthetic. His uniform has arms that are longer and looser than the typical cuffed sleeves, more akin to those of a kimono. The absence of any textile bands around his calves contributes to the uniform's overall appearance of looseness and size. He also sports a pair of white Zri with dark blue straps in addition to dark blue tabi socks.

Muichiro Tokito's Personality

Muichiro Tokito's Personality

Muichiro is an egotistical person who appears to be perpetually daydreaming and unable to concentrate on anything. He has a tendency to think entirely for himself and utilize intellect alone, never letting emotions influence him, making him seem completely apathetic and uncaring. He can be impassive and, at times, obtuse. Although having a generally callous and unserious manner, he has demonstrated the ability to become serious when necessary and is loyal to his role as Mist Hashira for the Demon Slayer Corps. He does not allow his emotions to rule him, and reasoning is used to guide his decisions.

Yet before his older twin brother passed away, he was far more compassionate and kind-hearted. He was proven to have a better degree of kindness and understanding, taking after his father and feeling that he should try to do good for others if he wanted good to be done for him. Muichiro loses his memory and turns passive after a demon kills his sibling. After that, Muichiro carried a constant, profoundly suppressed rage within him that unavoidably motivated his future. After this memory loss, he began displaying the detached behavior of his twin brother, for which he is now known as a Hashira.

Muichiro Tokito's Abilities

1. Expert Swordsman

Expert Swordsman

Muichiro is a Hashira from the Demon Slayer Corps and one of the best and extremely skilled swordsmen. Given that he holds the title of Hashira, it may not come as a surprise to us, but despite his youth, he has managed to develop such a skill and is capable of competing with some of the more experienced hashiras. Even Upper-Rank One, Kokushibo, the strongest swordsman of the present period who has lived for about 30 times longer than Muichiro, was astonished by the young man's swordsmanship despite his youth. He is so skilled with his sword that he can hack through 10,000 relatively small, high-speed targets in a moment and use his blade to block a barrage of 1,000 sharp, poisonous needles.

2. Immense Speed and Reflexes

As a Hashira, Muichiro moves at a speed that is comparable to teleportation and has the power to slay demons. Tanjiro Kamado, who was able to keep up with the movements of Upper Moon demons, could not match his speed, but he could easily outreach him in terms of reflexes. Muichiro's extraordinary reflexes and speed were further displayed during his combat with Upper Moon Gyokko, as seen by his ability to slice through 10,000 slugs in a split second and even send them all flying before their blood touched him.

Also, he was able to keep up with Gyokko, who had the ability to teleport between far-off pots. Later, he decapitated Gyokko before the Higher Rank had time to react. With his Obscuring Clouds technique, which forces him to alternate between incredibly slow motions and blinding bursts of speeds quicker than the eye can see, Muichiro also shows tremendous control over his own movement speed.

3. Incredible Physical Strength

Incredible Physical Strength

Muichiro has demonstrated physical strength that is a cut above that of the average Demon Slayer, despite having one of the smallest and weakest physiques among the Demon Slayers and Hashira. His willpower quickly wanes, and he becomes more dangerous than ever when he is enraged. He may even compete with some of the most powerful demons, such as upper-rank demons when he is in this form. Muichiro displayed this skill during a duel with Kokushibo. He received some deadly wounds throughout the fight, but his roiling wrath enabled him to get back up and carry on. He was able to defeat Kokushibo with the aid of his omnipresent rage.

4. Extreme Endurance

Muichiro has extraordinary stamina and endurance, which he frequently demonstrated. With enough power to keep up with Gyokko, Muichiro was utterly unfazed by the poisoning and scarcely even flinched. Yet his battle with Kokushibo best demonstrated his extraordinary pain tolerance. As his arm was severed, he made an effort to stop his wounds blood flow before resuming his attack on the demon swordsman. Despite being stabbed in the shoulder by a sword, Muichiro scarcely displayed any symptoms of pain. Later, when stabbing Kokushibo, he had his leg severed but was still able to harm him severely. Most astounding of all, he managed to make his katana bright red while still holding onto it after having his entire torso severed, leaving only his upper body.

5. Demon Slayer Mark

Demon Slayer Mark

Muichiro's mark appears during his meeting with Higher Rank Five, Gyokko, when his body temperature reaches 39 degrees Celsius, and his pulse rate exceeds 200 beats per minute. His body is covered in numerous red, mist-like marks, although they are most noticeable on his face and arms. While the mark is there, his attacking and defensive abilities are greatly enhanced, enabling him the strength to not only govern a severely poisoned body but also to kill an Upper Rank on his own. While his mark is active, he becomes more powerful and moves faster. Once his mark vanishes, the poison will start to have its effects, and Muichiro immediately begins suffering from the effects of different attacks.

Muichiro Tokito's Nichirin Sword

Muichiro wields a regular Nichirin katana in his term as a Demon Slayer, which is white in color but can be turned brilliant red with the use of his Demon Slayer Mark. Muichiro's katana and blade are etched with the phrase Destroy Demons. The hilt of his sword is square, with hollow rectangles at each corner. Muichiro wears a normal, black sword sheath in addition to his katana.

Muichiro Tokito's Breathing Style

Muichiro Tokito's Breathing Style

As the Mist Hashira, Muichiro employs Mist Breathing Technique. The user can produce and manipulate Mist to mimic its hazy appearance. As a result, the attack target loses focus, which makes it possible for the user to attack. This would also account for Muichiro's ability to move like the mist while donning loose-fitting garments. One of Muichiro's combat tactics may very well be defying expectations. Muichiro employs his Mist Breathing in addition to his white Nichirin blade. Here are 7 forms of the Mist Breathing techniques.

  • First Form: Low Clouds, Distant Haze - The user attacks in front of them with a strong thrust.

  • Second Form: Eight-Layered Mist - The user quickly follows each forward slash with another eight, one on top of the other.

  • Third Form: Scattering Mist Splash - This allows the user to scatter missiles in front of them with a powerful circular slash.

  • Fourth Form: Shifting Flow Slash - The user quickly draws their sword from its sheath, runs blindingly in the direction of his opponent, and unleashes a quick slash from beneath them. Iaijutsu is strongly evocative of this technique.

  • Fifth Form: Sea of Clouds and Haze - The user charges forward quickly while disguising their motions with a flurry of cuts that cover a large area.

  • Sixth Form: Lunar Dispersing Mist - The user backflips into the air while upside down and fires a barrage of downward-directed ranged attacks that can instantly take out dozens of enemies.

  • Seventh Form: Obscuring Clouds - Muichiro Tokito's original work uses a technique that appears to be misty clouds covering a large region. The person rapidly alters their movement speed to confuse their opponent. The user's movement appears to be exceedingly slow when they reveal themselves, but it happens in a split second when they conceal.
