Get ready for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2!

Since its debut in late 2019 Jujutsu Kaisen has become one of those anime series that became a smash hit with its joint efforts of horror, fantasy and strangely heartwarming.

Literally translating to “Sorcery Fight,” Jujutsu Kaisen (じゅじゅつかいせん) is a hugely popular manga series originally released in Japan in 2018 as a shōnen manga series by Gege Akutami. It became an instant hit and the highly anticipated first season of the anime began in Japan in 2020. In classic shonen style we follow an easygoing, unnaturally fit teenager, Yuji Itador, who lives a seemingly ordinary high school life. But, before long we realized this is absolutely not true, especially at the moment Yuji eats, erm… a cursed decomposed finger. 

Yes, you read that right. 

A cursed finger that belonged to the cursed spirit Ryomen Sukuna - but why on earth would someone eat a decaying body part? Obviously only to save his new found Occult Research Club members after someone had broken the seal of the finger - you know, the usual reason.

Jujutsu Kaisen is set in a universe where Cursed Spirits and Cursed Energy luck around every corner. Born from negative feelings and emotions of humans the energy turns into Curses, which then spiritual beings use to bring harm and death to unsuspecting humans. And the most fearsome and strongest Curse of all is Sukuna - yes, the one and same finger that Yuji swallowed. 

The golden hearted protagonist sets out with his new cohort as the Jujutsu Sorcerers from his newly enrolled Tokyo Jujutsu Tech High School. Whilst learning sorcery techniques the young students are tasked to collect 20 of Sukuna fingers that are scattered around the world - the only hitch? Yuji has to consume and ingest every single finger to absorb more of the curse into his body and destroy Jujutsu Kaisen Sukuna once and for all.

Jujutsu Kaisen was a massive hit right from the start of season 1, capturing anime fans alike with its mesmerizing animation, completing store and the artistically comedic relief scenes. However, it's really the characters that stole our hearts, as much as we love our main man Yuji Itador, the powerful teacher Gojo Satoru has us swooning. Gojo is a special-grade Jujutsu sorcerer, teaching at Tokyo Jujutsu High, he is regarded as the most powerful and strongest in the world. 

Gojo is a tall, white-haired man with a mysterious blind fold. Although we do not question Gojo’s fashion sense, he covers his eyes for a very practical reason. He needs to cover them to save his energy as he has something called Six Eyes, this gives him the ability to see cursed energy in a lot of high definition detail. Because this sense is incredibly intense it quickly drains him, so to preserve his power and to continue his curse hunting job he adds a blind fold! Having Six Eyes is certainly a great ability to have, but it’s only a part of why Gojo is so strong. Through his Gojo Family bloodline he inherited Limitless as well as Six eyes, making him the first person to have both in four hundred years. The Limitless technique allows Gojo to manipulate space between himself and his opponent. The combination of both of these abilities, Gojo Satoru immense speed and reflexes and tactical intellect make him an incredibly formidable fighter and utilamtlity the strongest, silliest and most lovable character.    

Alongside Gojo Satoru his students are Yuji Itadori (Itadori Jujutsu Kaisen), Nobara Kugisaki (Jujutsu Kaisen Nobara) and Megumi Fushiguto (Megumi Jujutsu Kaisen) who are all 1st year students trying to traverse their sorcerer abilities.

In the Jujutsu Kaisen verse we are introduced to so many lovable characters who appear in Jujutsu Kaisen, from faulty members, to 1st - 3rd year students and other Professional Sorcerers. Students that have appeared include, Maki Jujutsu Kaisen (2nd year)  and Todo Jujutsu Kaisen (3rd year in Kyoto Jujutsu High), and Professional Sorcerers like Nanami Jujutsu Kaisen. During the series we also meet Cursed spirits, we are first introduced to Sukuna Jujutsu Kaisen, the powerful guy with the lost 20 cursed fingers, Mahito Jujutsu Kaisen, whose main goal is to eradicate humanity. There is also, Choso Jujutsu Kaisen the half human and half cursed spirit who loved his brother - Jujutsu Kaisen Yuji. 

In 2021 our big screens were blessed with a Jujutsu Kaisen movie, set as a prequel before the beloved anime series. Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is said to be one of the best anime films based on a TV show in years, it has stunning action sequences, a strong emotional story and complex well rounded characters. The Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie is a perfectly satisfying standalone story that connects the Jujutsu Kaisen series and enhances its story, it was able to create success in what so many prequels fail. Without giving out too many spoilers for the well worth watching movie, there are a few of the anime favorite elements in the movie - hauntings, cursings and our beloved Satoru Gojo. 

Whilst the Jujutsu Kaisen movie has subsided some of our cravings there is a feel wanting more! Currently Jujutsu Kaisen only has one season with 24 action packed episodes covered in 6 Arcs, and even though we are very into rewatching anime series over and over again, we can happily say that officially there will be a Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 released!

According to the current information the second anime series is set for release in 2023! The information surrounding the second season is pretty scarce at the moment, but as the manga is still ongoing and creating material for new episodes we suspect that it seems practically certain it should happen soon. At this moment there is no new trailer, simply for the reason it has not been produced yet - but it will happen, even though there is not a precise Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 release date. However, it could debut during one of anime's three major release windows: Winter 2023 (starting January 2023), Spring 2023 (starting April 2023), or Fall 2023 (starting October 2023).
